MidDevon Digital builds field service apps for businesses with staff out on site: a web application for the office and a mobile app for iOS and Android, securely connected to each other. The office plans and allocates the work; the team sees their jobs, completes job sheets and forms, and sends photos, signatures and timesheets straight back. Fixed quote, you own the code.

What a field service app is, and why it comes in two parts

A field service app is a mobile app for staff who work away from the office, connected to a system the office runs. The team sees their jobs, directions and notes on their phone, completes job sheets, checklists and QA forms on site, and sends photos, signatures and timesheets back. The office sees it all as it happens, without a phone call or a piece of paper.

Businesses with people on site have two problems at once. The office doesn't know what's happening in the field until someone rings or the paperwork comes in on Friday, and the team on site can't see the information the office has. A field service app fixes both, but only if the office system and the mobile app are designed together.

The office side: a web application

Runs in a browser. Plan the work, allocate it to people, vans or gangs, see what's done, chase what isn't, raise the invoice. The office app holds the data and the rules.

The field side: a mobile app for iOS and Android

A proper app on the App Store and Google Play. Today's jobs, addresses and notes, forms and checklists, photos, signatures and timesheets.

Connected securely to each other

Two apps built for two different environments, with one source of truth. The mobile app sends to and reads from the office web app over a secure connection, so a job sheet sent from site is in the office the moment it arrives.

Built for the real conditions

Poor signal, gloves, bright sunlight, a van dashboard. Big buttons, the minimum of typing, and work saved on the phone until the signal comes back.

Who a field service app is for

Any business where the work happens somewhere the office isn't.

Scaffolders, groundworkers and construction trades

Jobs with phases and gangs, site checks and QA forms, scaffold and plant tracking, and a record that stands up if anyone asks.

Plumbers, electricians and installers

Jobs and parts on the phone, certificates and sign-offs completed on site, photos attached to the job before leaving.

Cleaning, facilities and grounds maintenance

Sign in and out at each site, checklists completed, issues reported with a photo, timesheets built automatically.

Inspection, survey and compliance work

Structured forms with required fields, photos and signatures, producing a report the moment the inspection ends.

What the field app can do

Built around what your team needs on site, so this is a starting point rather than a feature sheet

Today's jobs and navigation

Each person sees their own jobs, in order, with address, contact, notes and one tap to navigate.

Job sheets, checklists and QA forms

Your forms, digital: required fields, drop-downs, photos against each question, and a PDF at the end if you need one.

Photos, signatures and completion

Before and after photos, customer signature, completion time. All attached to the job and visible in the office immediately.

Timesheets and attendance

Start and finish by job or by site, with NFC tags or location where it helps. Payroll and job costing fed without a paper timesheet.

Offline working

Work carries on without signal and syncs when it's back, so a basement or a rural site doesn't stop the job.

Push notifications

New job, changed job, urgent message. Straight to the phone rather than a call that goes to voicemail.

What every field service system includes

Both halves built to the same standard, in every project.

  • Office web application that runs in any browser
  • Mobile app for iOS and Android, published to the App Store and Google Play
  • Secure connection between the two, with role-based access
  • Hosted on its own dedicated server in your name, with a daily database backup
  • Works offline and syncs when a signal returns
  • Connections to Xero, Sage, calendars and payment providers
  • Training for office and field staff before go-live
  • Hosting, backups and support on a monthly plan after launch; app store updates and new features quoted separately

How a field service app gets built

Four stages, a fixed price, and the office system working before the app goes to the team.

Step 1

Discovery

You walk us through how a job goes through the business, from first call to final invoice, and where the time and the mistakes go. The system is designed to that spec. At your place or on Zoom.

Step 2

Scope and fixed quote

Office screens, app screens, forms and the connection between them, written down with a fixed price and a realistic timeline.

Step 3

Build in stages

Office system first, so planning works. Then the app, tested on real phones on real sites with a few of your team before everyone gets it.

Step 4

Launch and support

App published, data moved across, everyone trained. Then hosting, backups and support on a monthly plan, with new features and app updates quoted as you need them.

Elite Cleaning: 80 to 100 staff signing in across more than 100 sites

A Devon commercial cleaning company whose operatives work alone across many client sites. The staff side of the portal gives each operative a simple sign-in and sign-out on their phone at each site, which builds their timesheet automatically and gives the office a live view of cover. Issues are raised from the phone with a photo and land straight with the office. No paper timesheets, no Friday chase.

What is a field service app?

A field service app is a mobile app for staff who work away from the office, connected to a system the office runs. The team sees their jobs on their phone, completes job sheets, checklists and forms on site, and sends photos, signatures and timesheets back. The office plans the work and sees what's done as it happens.

Do we need both the office system and the mobile app?

Usually, yes. The app is only useful if there's a system behind it holding the jobs and receiving what comes back. If you already have a job management system that other software can connect to, we can build the app to work with it. If you don't, we build both, designed together.

Does the app work without a signal?

Yes. The app stores work on the phone and syncs with the office system when a signal returns, so a basement, a rural site or a steel-framed building doesn't stop the job.

Which phones does it work on?

Both. The app is built for iOS and Android and published to the App Store and Google Play. It can be published under your business name or ours, whichever suits.

How much does a field service app cost?

It depends on how much the office system needs to do, how many forms and screens the app has, and what it connects to. Because it's two applications rather than one, it sits at the upper end of what we build. You get a fixed quote in writing after a free discovery call, and we'll tell you if an existing product would do the job for less.

How long does it take?

It depends on the spec, the number of forms and screens, what it connects to and our workload at the time, so the timeline is agreed in your quote rather than quoted as a standard figure. The office system is built first and the app follows, in stages, so your team will be trying the app on site well before the end.

Can it replace our paper job sheets and timesheets?

Yes, and that's usually the first thing it does. Your existing forms become digital forms with required fields, photos and signatures, and timesheets are built from start and finish times rather than filled in on a Friday.

Still waiting for the paperwork to come back from site?

Tell us how jobs get to the team and how the results get back, and we'll show you what an office system and field app would look like, with a clear quote.
