MidDevon Digital builds food ordering and takeaway apps for takeaways, restaurants, cafes and pubs in Devon and across the UK. Your menu, your prices and your customers in your own app on the App Store and Google Play, with ordering, payment, collection or delivery slots and a loyalty scheme built in. No marketplace commission on orders. Fixed quote, and the app is yours.
Your own takeaway app, with nobody taking a cut of every order

What a food ordering app does, and why your own beats a marketplace
A food ordering app lets customers browse your menu, build an order, pay and choose collection or delivery, from an app on their phone. The order reaches you however your kitchen works: on screen, by email, printed, or passed into your till. With your own app, the customer and the order are yours: no marketplace between you, no commission on each sale, and no competitor's listing one scroll away.
The marketplace apps are convenient, and that convenience is paid for from your margin on every order, often a fifth or more. They also own the customer: their name, their order history, their loyalty. Your own app keeps all of it. The marketplace can still bring in new customers; the app is where the regulars go once they know you.
Your menu, your way
Categories, options, extras, meal deals, allergens, out-of-stock in one tap. You change it yourself from the content management system, and the app updates on every phone.
Orders wherever the kitchen wants them
Each order lands in the content management system as it comes in, with the time it was promised for, and is emailed to you at the same time. If the kitchen works from paper, orders can print automatically; if you already run a till or ordering system, they can be passed into it. Accept, adjust the wait, mark it ready, and the customer gets a notification.
Collection, delivery or table
Collection slots that match how fast the kitchen runs, delivery zones with their own fees and minimums, or order-to-table for pubs and cafes. Whichever combination fits.
Loyalty that brings people back
A stamp or points scheme built into the ordering, so the tenth order is on you and the customer knows it. And when it's quiet, a push notification to everyone who has the app, free, is the cheapest marketing you'll ever do: a special, a deal, a reminder that you exist on a Tuesday.

Who a food ordering app is for
Anyone selling food to regulars who'd rather keep the margin and the customer.
Takeaways and fast food
Friday night orders from the home screen, paid up front, timed for the kitchen, with no marketplace fee coming off the top.
Restaurants with a collection trade
A quieter way to take the collection orders that currently tie up the phone, with the full menu and the specials in the customer's hand.
Cafes and coffee shops
Order ahead and skip the queue, a coffee loyalty card on the phone, and a notification when the new cake is in.
Pubs and bars
Order-to-table from the phone, so the bar serves faster and the kitchen knows which table. Food and drink, with the tab paid in the app.
What a takeaway app can include
Built around how your kitchen runs, so this is a starting point rather than a feature sheet.
Menu and ordering
Full menu with options, extras and allergens. Basket, reorder from history, favourites.
Payments
Card, Apple Pay and Google Pay through Stripe or your existing provider. Tips and service charge if you want them.
Collection and delivery
Timed collection slots, delivery zones and fees, minimum orders, or order-to-table by table number.
Orders where you want them
Every order appears in the content management system and by email as it arrives, with promised times. Print automatically, or pass orders into a till or in-house system you already use.
Push notifications and offers
Tonight's special, a quiet-Tuesday deal, "your order is ready". Straight to the phone of every customer who installed the app, free, sent by you in two minutes. Plus stamps or points per order and promo codes.
Customer accounts
Saved addresses and cards, order history, dietary preferences, and the ability to reach them when it's quiet.

Demo app
Try the demo takeaway app on your own phone
We've built a working takeaway ordering app so you can see how the menu, basket, checkout and order handling work before you commit to anything. Book a call and we'll put it on your phone, place a test order together, and talk through what yours would need that's different.
How a takeaway app gets built
Four stages, a fixed price, and a working version on your own phone well before launch.
Step 1
Discovery
A conversation about your menu, how the kitchen runs, how you take orders today and where the marketplace fees are going. Your spec is what the app is designed around. At your place or on Zoom.
Step 2
Design and fixed quote
Every screen designed in your branding before any code is written, with a written scope, a fixed price and a realistic timeline.
Step 3
Build and test
iOS and Android built together, with a test version on your phone as each part is ready. You place real test orders and watch them land in the kitchen before any customer does.
Step 4
Launch and look after
We handle the App Store and Google Play submissions and go live. Then hosting, the content management system, updates, re-submissions and support run on a monthly plan, with new features quoted as you want them.
What clients say
We have always found Peter to be responsive to our requirements, and this has delivered an efficient solution to the daily functions of our growing business. We believe that the process we undertook with Peter has resulted in a far superior solution to purchasing an off-the-shelf system.
Phillip Voss, Elite Cleaning, Devon
Peter at MidDevon Digital has been absolutely amazing. His patience with my lack of technology is sound and I love the work he has done on our website. I would have no hesitation recommending him.

How much does a takeaway app cost?
It depends on the size of the menu, whether you need delivery as well as collection, whether orders need to go into a till or in-house system, and whether you want loyalty and offers built in. You get a fixed quote in writing after a free discovery call. For most takeaways the comparison is simple: the build is a one-off cost, and the marketplace commission it replaces is a percentage of every order forever.
Do you charge commission on orders?
No. There is no platform fee from us on anything sold through the app. The only per-order charge is your payment provider's card processing fee, which applies wherever you take card payments. The build is a fixed price and the monthly plan covers hosting and support.
Will my customers actually download it?
They will if there's a reason to. A loyalty scheme, an app-only offer and a sign at the counter get most regulars on within a few weeks. We can also set up a QR code for the counter, the bags and the menu, and the app can live alongside the marketplace while it builds up.
How do orders reach the kitchen?
Every order appears in the content management system as it arrives, with the promised time, and is emailed to you at the same time. From there it can print automatically for a kitchen that works from paper, or be passed into a till or in-house ordering system you already run. The kitchen accepts, delays or marks it ready, and the customer is told. Most takeaways start with the screen and the email, and add printing or a till connection if they need it.
Can it do delivery as well as collection?
Yes. Delivery zones with their own fees and minimum orders, timed slots, and your own drivers if you have them. If you don't, the app can run collection only and still take the marketplace's collection trade.
Can I change the menu myself?
Yes. Prices, items, options, out-of-stock and specials are all changed from the content management system, and the app updates on every phone without a new version going to the stores. Only changes to the app itself, like adding a new section or changing the design, need a new version published, and we handle that under the monthly plan.
Can it include a loyalty card?
Yes, and it should. Stamps or points per order, a reward at a threshold you set, and offers pushed to the phone. That's usually what gets the app downloaded in the first place.
